Let’s Get Learning!
Okay, so I’ve finally got some new dates planned in, see details below. I’m still trying to tweak the workshop space to make it suitable for the ongoing evening classes that I have planned, so for now, there are just single sessions on offer.
There’s the usual mix – some full Introduction to Glass Fusing Days. On these, in the morning, you will learn a little bit (not too overwhelming though) about the science side of glass. You will also be shown how and get plenty of practice scoring and breaking along with as a couple of techniques with window glass so you can cut and make your own designs. In the afternoon, we move on to using colourful Bullseye glass. Again you will have an opportunity to make a variety of things. Whether it’s jewellery, coasters, a wall plaque or a bowl, we’re open to ideas! Full day sessions are £65.00 per person.
For the taster sessions, I’ve planned in a few family fun days during the school holidays; younger people are more than welcome. A responsible adult (yes, that’s you!) has to stay with the child throughout the session, but you have a choice. You can help your young one with their makes, in which case you would only pay for one place. Or, if your child is a older and more capable, it’s a lovely activity to do together and you get your own set of makes each, this is charged per person. Bear in mind though, we do work with glass that, pre-firing, does have sharp edges. Kids are often more sensible and careful than adults though! If you’re not sure, get in touch HERE, happy to answer any questions.
*** APOLOGIES, BUT DUE TO THE RECENT CORONA VIRUS OUTBREAK, ALL GROUP CLASSES HAVE BEEN SUSPENDED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. GIFT VOUCHERS ARE STILL AVAILABLE AND WILL HAVE AT LEAST ONE YEAR EXPIRY DATE ON THEM***
I’ve added a couple of evening dates for some after work creative time, and also added a Mother’s Day session – what better way to treat Mum than to spend some time together, getting creative? Most tasters are £25.00 per person
Finally, on a diet? Think the kids get too much chocolate at Easter? Well, instead of scoffing eggs all weekend, why not come along and create your own glass Easter Egg hanging? I will be getting some special shapes cut for you to decortate with coloured accessory glass, and for the workshop price of £30, you will get two shapes, approx 12cm tall. This would be a great session to share. Also great for a gift, although it won’t be ready to take away on the day as just like all other sessions, the glass needs lots of hours in the kiln before it’s ready
If you have a voucher to redeem, whether that be one of mine or one from Craft Courses, please GET IN TOUCH so I can reserve your place without having to go through the checkout.Although it’s Paypal, you do not need to have an account, you can check out as guest if you wish.

A Commission I Can Now Share…
As a result of the supplying the Royal Air Force Association with products for their range, I was asked to design and make a special collection. It was framed glass art to be presented as gifts for dignitaries at 2019 RIAT. It was an honour and a thrill to create these, which featured the iconic Spitfire and the brand new F35 screenprinted onto hand-coloured glass.
Following on from this, I was featured the autumn edition of ‘Airmail’, the magazine for RAFA members. A delightful gentleman called Jon saw this article just as he was remodelling his spare room into a “man-cave” which is plane themed. He immediately decided he’d like something for this room and contacte me to commission two panels.
I’ve not yet met Jon, but he phoned me today to tell me his oversized parcel had arrived (always pack glass assuming they’re going to play football with the package) and that he was absolutely delighted with the panels. He told me I can share them with you, as long as I don’t give out his address, in case a stream of women go knocking on his door…. He’s promised to send me photos when they’re installed, too, but for now, here’s a couple of snaps I took at the studio before wrapping them in yards of corrugated card (recycled of course) and lots of air (large packaging bubbles, also recycled!)

Seasons Greetings, and oh what a year!
Well, we’re only a couple of weeks away from the big day. I’ll be cooking dinner for the family which I thoroughly enjoy, but generally having a restful, chilled day. Whilst maybe quaffing a wine or three, and maybe a bit of Baileys…
It’s been quite an eventful year!
With starting to supply the Royal Air Force Association with some exclusive products. This led to providing a RIAT 2019 special order. Developing the range for them has inspired a new range of products for me that incorporate a previous love – screen printing.
This year, I have worked with some new craft groups, new arts organisations as well as revisiting old friends. I think I have had the busiest year so far for Glass On the Go workshops, as well as some full classes down at the studio.
I’ve done a few more events this year, including Created By Hand Fair at Nottingham University, Notts Open Studios in the summer, Derby Six Streets Arts Trail. Last week I did a lovely local event at the Factory Kitchen, with Ilkeston Makers Markets. In October, I got my work into the lovely Ferrers Gallery for their Christmas event, it’s a lovely place to go visit, I do hope I will be going back.
A couple more classes to go, and oh I best start my Christmas shopping soon, eh? Talking of classes, keep an eye out for a new evening class planned for the new year. Not just a single class, a series of sessions so you can respond to outcomes and work on longer projects. I am very excited about the possibilities.
And before I go, I’ll leave a little hint about exhibitions. Can’t say much yet, but I have something very interesting in the planning with my friend Jackie of Treehuggery….
Merry Christmas everyone

New Gallery Alert!
Very excited here at DTD Towers. My work is now being stocked at the gorgeous Ferrers Gallery for Contemporary British Craft at Staunton Harold.
If you’ve never been, it’s well worth a visit soon; they stock lots of lovely work by some fabulous artists. A great selection of glass as well as lots of other goodies – three floors of gorgeous art and craft – a beautiful gallery shop in a beautiful setting.
My work has been chosen for the current Christmas Exhibition. You can find my brand new stag decorations which just now, you cannot get anywhere else. As well some sparkly trees and festive wreathes (which are apparently flying out, already had to re-stock them). My silhouette framed picture range are also available.
As well as the gallery, there are several other studios and shops from framers to artists, blacksmiths to baked artisan bread, textiles and treats for body and mind, at the Ferrers Centre for Arts & Crafts, set in the grounds of Staunton Harold Estate. Oh, and a lovely Tea Rooms, which I can highly recommend.
